Moshi + Kilimanjaro Climb
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), transfer to Moshi.We will board our international flights to Kilimanjaro International airport. Upon arrival we will have a private transfer arranged for you. The drive from the airport to the town of Moshi is about an hour drive. We will check into our hotel and spend the evening relaxing, having dinner, and exploring the town of Moshi. |
Day 2: Materuni Waterfall and Kikuletwa hot springs
We will sleep in, doing our best to adjust time zones and have a late breakfast. After breakfast we will meet our guides and do an equipment check. For those that want to, there are some beautiful hot springs and a large waterfall clos to Moshi where we can go to relax before we begin our climb early tomorrow morning. When we get back to our hotel we will make sure we are ready and packed for the following morning and get to bed early. |
Day 3: Marangu gate to Mandara huts. 6,048 ft to 8,858 ft, 5 miles. This will be our first day on the mountain. We will wake up and leave early, around 6:30 AM and have breakfast on the road. Once we get to Kilimanjaro national park our guides will get our permits and check us in while we have a small lunch at the base and explore the visitors center. Once everything is in place we will start our trek. The first day is an easier day as we are only walking about 5 miles through beautiful rainforests. Once at the huts we will have dinner, prepared by our cook, and then enjoy the beautiful scenery. Its common to see monkeys and other wildlife near these huts.

Day 4: Mandara huts to Horombo huts. 8,858 ft to 12,205 ft, 7 miles. We will wake up at 7 AM, wash, pack our gear, and fill our water. We will then have a big breakfast and start our climb shortly after. Today we will transition from the rainforests into the moorland type environment. We will break for lunch along the trail and arrive to camp in the evening around 2 or 3 pm. We will rest, have dinner and enjoy the beautiful sunset from up above the clouds. This site is where we will first be able to catch glimpses of the final peak.
Day 5: Rest day/Acclimitazation day
Depending on how our group is feeling we have built in an acclimatization day in order to increase our chances of reaching the summit. We can forgo this day depending on how everyone is feeling. If we choose to take this rest day then we will sleep in and then do a short acclimatization hike to about 15,000 ft where we will get beautiful views of both Mawenzi and Uhuru peaks. Afterwards we will rest and enjoy the views through the evening. |
Day 6: Horombo huts to Kibo huts. 12,205 ft to 15,331 ft, 6 miles. We will wake up early and start our day with a good breakfast and make our way towards the Kibo huts. This will be the day where we get the best views and get to base camp (the final camp before the summit). We will arrive around 2pm, have a good lunch and then try to sleep as much as possible in order to wake up early for our summit day.
Day 7: Kibo huts to Uhuru peak to Horombo huts. 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft, 13 milesWe will wake up at 12 AM to begin our summit bid. It will take us close to 6-7 hours to reach the summit. After reaching the summit and enjoying the beautiful sunrise we will begin our descent, stopping at Kibo huts for lunch, resting for a little while and then continuing on to the Horombo huts where we will celebrate with a big dinner and a good nights sleep. |
Day 8: Horombo huts to Marangu gate. We will make our long descent from Horombo to Marangu gate today. We will start early and break for lunch at mandara huts. Once we reach Marangu gate we will be given our certificates of completion, have our last meal on the mountain and then begin our drive back to Moshi where we will have a big dinner and rest.

Day 9: Moshi, Ngorogoro Crater Safari
Today we will wake up and enjoy breakfast at a small local cafe. After breakfast we will meet our safari guide for the next few days. We will load our gear into our safari jeep and drive to Ngorogoro crater. It will be a several hour journey to the crate so we will get an early start. Once at Ngorogoro Crater we will spend a full 6-7 hours inside seeing all kinds of animals. The crate is one of the few places to see hippos and rhinos. After seeing the crater we will drive to a small town close to the Tarangire park. We will stay in a hotel here, they have a delicious restaurant here so we will have a filling dinner and then rest for our full day in Tarangire national park. |
Day 10: Tarangire National park, maasai village, maasai market. We will wake up and have breakfast at our hotel and then begin the drive to Tarangire. It’s a short drive to the park, about 20 mins. Once at the park we will spend the entire day inside, this park is well know for its large population of elephants. It is not uncommon for for one to see hundreds of elephants in a day. We will have lunch in the park overlooking a beautiful river where one can see all kinds of animals congregating. After our day in Tarangire we will drive back to Arusha where we will stay for the night. There is a maasai market in Arusha where local maasai tribes bring their handmade wares to sell. We will stay nearby and will be able to go out and explore the market.

Day 11: Pack up, drive to the airport, say our goodbyes
Sadly, our time in Tanzania has come to an end. After waking up and having our final breakfast, we will prepare to leave to the airport. From the town of Arusha it is about an hour drive to the airport so we will leave in the morning after around 10 AM. |
